Project overview

The client wanted a dedicated space for entertaining, centred around a small but practical patio that would hold a barbecue and outdoor seating. The aim was to create something durable, attractive and easy to maintain, while working within a compact garden layout.

The new patio needed to blend naturally with the existing garden while offering a stable and level surface for cooking and hosting.

Site assessment

The garden space was gently sloped with uneven soil levels, making the usable area limited. Ensuring proper drainage and selecting durable materials were key to building a long-lasting barbecue area.

  • Uneven, sloping ground
  • Limited space for a functional layout
  • Need for durable and heat-resistant materials
  • Drainage planning to protect the patio surface

Our approach: compact patio installation

We designed and installed a small, efficient patio that maximised the available space and provided the client with a dedicated barbecue area that is both practical and visually appealing.

1. Excavation & grading

The patio footprint was marked out, excavated and carefully levelled. A subtle grade was created to ensure effective drainage away from the property.

2. Base preparation

A compacted crushed stone base provided a stable foundation, topped with a layer of sharp sand for accurate paver placement.

3. Patio installation

Durable concrete pavers were installed using a layout suited to the compact space. Edge restraints were added to keep the patio secure over time.

4. Finishing touches

Polymer sand was brushed and activated to lock the joints. The surrounding ground was tidied, graded and blended seamlessly with the new patio.

Results for the Beeding client

The completed patio provides a durable and practical outdoor area perfectly suited for grilling and small gatherings. Despite the limited space, the design feels open, efficient and comfortable.

The carefully prepared base ensures long-term stability, while the chosen pavers complement the surrounding garden and the style of the home.

Challenges & solutions

  • Limited space: The layout was optimised for both movement and functionality.
  • Drainage needs: A properly sloped, compacted base ensures water flows safely away from the patio.

The client was thrilled with the quality of finish and the practical improvement to their garden. The patio is now a favourite spot for weekend barbecues and relaxing outdoors.
